How important is music to you?

Tinder is expanding the ways you may judge a possible match based on their musical preferences by introducing Music Mode, which allows you to hear the song someone has set as their “Anthem” before deciding which way to swipe. Music Mode, like Tinder’s other music features, will interact with Spotify, but it should make it easier to judge someone based on the song they’ve chosen to represent themselves—even if you’ve never heard it before, you’ll be able to sense the vibe right away.

Music Mode will be found on the app’s newly created Explore page, so you may ignore it if you don’t want to listen to other people’s tunes right now. Music Mode, according to Tinder’s product VP Kyle Miller, is like “the sensation you get when you’re at a party and you find out someone else likes the same songs you do.”

In their newsroom press release, the company shared:

“About 40% of all Gen Z members globally have already added Anthems to their profiles and when they do, they see a nearly 10% increase in matches. Music Mode builds on the natural ties between music and human connection by letting members find others through their love of the same tunes, all while creating a party-like atmosphere that makes their Sunday night Tinder sesh more fun.”

Tinder’s Anthem function, which was introduced in 2016 and allows you to choose a song to highlight on your profile and identify yourself with, is finally getting some love. That said, it would be wonderful if the app worked with Apple Music – you may choose an Anthem without joining your Spotify account, but you won’t be able to have your favorite artists instantly linked to your profile as Spotify users can.

Drake’s “Way 2 Sexy” (featuring Future & Young Thug) is the most popular Anthem for 2021, followed by Doja Cat and SZA’s “Kiss Me More” and Olivia Rodrigo’s “nice 4 u,” according to the dating app.

Additionally, Tinder should be able to sort Music Mode so that you don’t hear the same song over and over if everyone is using it as their Anthem. The company said that Music Mode should become available anywhere you can get Spotify in the coming weeks, and everyone will be able to use it if they’ve linked your Spotify account and added an Anthem of their own.
