27. That is the number of hair care products I have in my bathroom right now. Some help my curls stay hydrated, some are shampoos and conditioners, some are good for post-wash day shine, while others help my curl definition and overall density. All to say, I know hair care products. And with the extra downtime COVID-19 has provided and the closure of hair salons, I’ve been working to define which products work. I’ve been looking for long lasting durable products and it’s been the greatest self-care gift I could have given myself.

The below are excellent recommendations for those of you looking to change up your hair care routine. Read on to learn about 10 incredible products for your hair health.

Living Proof Masks ($38)

Living Proof makes incredible deep conditioners for hair that needs extra TLC. They have Repair Mask, Weightless Mask, and Intense Moisture Mask. Great for dull hair in need of a shine, or hair that wants more of a bounce.

Emerge Collection ($6.99)

Emerge launched in January of last year and has such great products for kinky, coil hair textures. They are sold exclusively on their website and at Target. Some products include: It’s Knot Happening Sulfate-Free Shampoo, Smooth Move Conditioner, My Mane BFF Leave-In Conditioner, Back To Life Hair Mask, My Everything Butter Cream, and Style Goals Gel.

Carol’s Daughter Wash Day Delight Love at First Wash Water-to-Foam Shampoo ($10.99)

With micellar water, Carol’s Daughter created your next wash day staple. When applied it appears to be a liquid, but once it makes contact with your scalp, it turns into a foam that removes buildup and cleanse without drying.

Philip Kingsley Flaky Scalp Hydrating Conditioner ($33)

Have dry, itchy scalp? The Flaky Scalp Hydrating Conditioner is lightweight and made with patauá oil, vitamin B5, and betaine to strengthen and smooth hair.

Maui Moisture Combing Cream Collection ($7.09)

Ideal for curly hair – it’s vegan and silicone-free.

Re-Fresh Coconut Pre-Shower Scalp Balm and Honeysuckle + Cleanse Scalp Moisturizer ($6.98)

A go-to winter hair product. It helps smooth your hair in those dry winds and snowy storms.

Prose Beauty Curl Cream ($25)

My Instagram is flooded with Prose ads. Formulated specifically for each customer (textures 2A to 4C) via a questionnaire – their curl creams are the perfect amount of moisture, weight and softness.

Ouai Treatment Mask ($38)

Ouai makes two shea butter masks, one for fine to medium and another for thick hair. The thick hair formula is blended with almond, olive, and macadamia oils to smooth and hydrate thicker textures.

Afro Sheen Hair Care ($8.99)

Originally launched in the ’60s, Afro Sheen is back and better than ever. I love the crown curl defining cream that works wonders on my aspiring-spiral curls.

Royal Oils from Head & Shoulders Water Activated Scalp Scrub and Prep Moisture Milk

Royal Oils from Head & Shoulders created an Afro-textured hair line last year that includes a Water Activated Scalp Scrub, Pre-Shampoo Build Up Remover, and Seal and Prep Moisture Milk. Perfect for dry, itchy scalps – products are infused with coconut oil, micellar water and moisturizing properties.
