After relaunching their verification badge last month, Twitter is now in the process of trying out its new live audio feature. If this trial is successful, we can expect a full rollout in 2021.

This new audio feature, called Spaces, is a little similar to the social app Clubhouse. Spaces is basically an audio chat room allowing users to create a “space” where followers can join and discuss various topics. The host is the only one who can control the crowd that is involved in this room and who can speak, but anyone on Twitter will be able to listen in. In a way, it’s similar to podcasts and interviews as well as the Instagram live feature.

Same way as you can send reactions on Instagram Live, you will be able to do the same in Spaces. Watchers will be able to send emoji reactions throughout. It is rumored that automatic transcriptions will also be available as part of the larger roll out in 2021.

Currently, the test is only available to a small group of users, a larger test (probably global) will be available in early 2021 and will provide us with a closer look at what this latest feature entails.
