The devil works hard, but Disney works harder. In 2012, Disney acquired Lucasfilm and all its intellectual property in a costly $4 billion deal. For the past nine years, Disney has worked tirelessly towards making that acquisition worth every penny. Since then we have gotten five new Star Wars films, four new television shows, seven new television shows in the Disney+ pipeline, one video game, and Galaxy’s Edge, an immersive land located at both Disneyland Park and Walt Disney World. It’s safe to say that Disney doesn’t plan on slowing down the Star Wars train any time soon.
A Star Wars hotel
At the 2017 D23 Expo, Disney promised a completely immersive experience for guests who board the Galactic Starcruiser, with the hotel set to have storylines that link directly to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, the Star Wars-inspired land located in Disney’s Hollywood Studios park. At the expo, Disney projected a 2021 opening — but the unforeseen pandemic had other plans and created a slight setback.
According to Comic Book, the official opening day will be March 1, 2022. You can start booking your trip beginning on October 28, 2021. Disney Vacation Club members, Disney Passholders and Disney Visa Cardmembers will also be contacted for a “special booking opportunity” in the coming weeks.
This past August, fans were shocked when Disney announced the pricing for the Galactic Starcruiser. Due to the unique and immersive nature of the hotel stay (being more so an experience versus a run-of-the-mill hotel stay), bookings are fixed at 2-days and 2-nights, which is currently priced at roughly $6,000 for four guests. The total cost does include meals for the duration of the stay, as well as entry into Disney’s Hollywood Studios to visit Galaxy’s Edge. Disney also added a number of activities that guests will be able to take part in while onboard, such as lightsaber training and meet-and-greets with various fan-favorite characters.
Right out of the dreams of a Star Wars super fan, the Galactic Starcruiser will give guests the opportunity to live as though they are a character within the Star Wars universe, traveling through the galaxy, for the duration of their stay. Those who stay at the hotel are encouraged to dress up and get involved with the experience, as Disney cast members at the hotel will have play their own roles in this universe in order to truly set the scene. The Starcruiser itself will also have its own storyline, so guests can feel as though they are actually making the jump to hyperspace, with the rooms equipped with screens instead of windows to give the live feeling of being in a galaxy far, far away.
